An image I see quite often right now when I think of women and how we are being affected by whats happening in the world, our freedom being ripped away, I see an hour glass, because, well, it is only a matter of time before it stops and we retaliate.

Speaking of retaliation. Holy shit! Has anyone started watching Handmaid’s Tale Season 3? HOLY SHIT! I think I was in tears within the first 5 minutes of the first episode. Don’t worry I won’t spoil it if you haven’t started watching. Everything I will say in the post is just going to be relevant to the show as a whole. As some might already know I am a huge GOT fan, but that’s all over. Honestly tho (and I realize I might get shit for this), I am a much bigger Handmaid’s Tale fan. STOP, don’t freak out! Just hear me out for a second. HT just resonates with me on a much deeper level in A LOT of realistic ways. Look at the way shit is going right now in the world. We are literally going backwards towards an HT driven world. Now I honestly don’t believe it would ever get as bad as HT, but we are seeing a lot of similarities at the moment.

It’s heart wrenching to even think about what it would feel like to have your child ripped out of your arms, be forced to be a “breeder” for people that you hate… A SLAVE! In a Handmaid’s Tale world I would be a breeder hands down. I would be punished for the abortions that I have had in a way that makes no fucking sense, just for the known fact that my body was able to produce children. So why does this show resonate with me? Well, to put it bluntly I have been raped, I have been a “slave” to a man. I have been in a position where I was made to feel like I was nothing. I had a child with someone that absolutely didn’t love me and used me in any way that he could. I know how this sounds, I know that it’s very heavy information, but as we should all know by now and for those of you just joining I don’t sugar coat a thing. Like the main character in HT, her name is June, I use all of my horrific experiences as FUEL. Pure fuel! I need to keep on fighting because that is the only way to try and make a difference. You don’t know what the outcome is going to be, but for those of us who have faced fear, punched it right in the face and got back up, fear becomes the “hater” we want to prove wrong every time it tries to appear.

My child is all I know how to fight for at this point in time. She is the reason I get up in the morning. The reason I work so hard even when it would just be easier to quite when the going gets tough. So to imagine a world where someone could take her from me, it makes me want to fight harder to make sue that never happens…EVER! Ya, I know it’s just a show. I have a feeling this is what some of you might be thinking. Have you seen what is happening in the world right now? We made leaps and bounds in the rights that women have. Now we are going all the way back wards. Did anyone see that coming? I sure didn’t. I know my mother didn’t and I know her mother probably didn’t. It’s scary. So yes, it’s just a show, but it’s weirdly relevant isn’t it? It hits me hard in a lot of different ways that I have mentioned. I think it’s resonating with many people right now. Stand the hell up and fight harder. Do not fear failure. Do not fear those who want to take you down or take away your rights.

“And with a bit of practice, that’s what we will become… NIGHTMARES. One day when we are ready, we are coming for you. Just wait! -Handmaid’s Tale (June).

Now isn’t that truth. Women are going to become the biggest nightmare to the people trying to take away our rights as human beings, as women. This is not an over night process, a nightmare does not appear out of now where, a nightmare comes from a mixture of some sort of trauma, conditioning of the mind, or circumstance that cannot be unseen. At least in my experience. Being a women is so powerful, beautiful and tremendously complicated. We can be the most wonderful dream and the most terrifying nightmare. One too many kicks and we will eventually fight and not as an individual, but as a pack.

Whether you look at Handmaid’s Tale as entertainment or something that is becoming a reality, just keep in mind the importance of how every human being deserves to be treated. Every women is special, but you hurt a mama or her child, it does something in the brain I cannot quite explain with words and the best way to describe it would be… A NIGHTMARE!

It’s only a matter of time before the hour glass stops…

Sleep tight, pleasant dreams, yours truly,

MollieAF
